Voice Over IP Phone System VOIP

Voice Over IP phone systems are really "the buzz" in the networking and telephony community. How does TeleVantage fit in? In what instances is it the best VOIP phone system choice? Let's look at a few of the ways a TeleVantage VOIP phone system can help your business.

Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol, is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some services may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some services only work over your computer or a special phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor.

What is Internet Voice?
It allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. It converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have. It may also allow you to make a call directly from a computer using a conventional telephone or a microphone.

  • Remote users or branch offices can link to one VOIP phone system. Every user, regardless of location, becomes an extension. Calling New York from Atlanta becomes as simple as dialing extension 115 - and no long distance charges apply.
  • Multiple systems in different locations can be linked together by IP cost effectively and all extensions can "hop off" to call a number local to ANY of the linked systems with no long distance...we find this used where out of state long distance rates are lower than in state. Long distance calls within the state can be routed via IP to be placed by a linked system outside the state reducing toll charges.
  • TeleVantage can link a few users and locations or thousands of users, with centralized administration, decreasing your support costs.
  • Since features such as conferencing are "built in" to TeleVantage companies can use VOIP to reduce the time and eliminate the conferencing fees and long distance charges involved in conferencing remote staff members. TeleVantage can simultaneously conference as many as 60 attendees.
  • TeleVantage Call Center functionality allows Call Centers to be manned by remote workers spread across a campus, a country, or the world.
  • Multiple systems can be used to provide redundant communication. If phone lines into one of the linked systems are lost calls can automatically route across the IP link and be placed through a TeleVantage phone system at another location.
  • TeleVantage combines the Voice Over IP phone system functionality you need with all the features you've come to expect from Artisoft.
  • Many IP phone system solutions require upgrading network infrastructure and increasing available bandwidth. TeleVantage doesn't.
  • Many IP phone system solutions lose the redundancy available with phones on one set of cabling and computers on another. TeleVantage doesn't.
  • With TeleVantage you can use inexpensive analog phones in your office and one card in the server will convert it to a VOIP phone system allowing any or all of them to make calls via VOIP to remote offices with IP phones or to other TeleVantage VOIP phone systems.
  • TeleVantage phone systems work with inexpensive IP phones by Uniden designed SPECIFICALLY for TeleVantage. These phones, like the UIP300ar, offer great functionality (including message waiting lights) for less than $245 MSRP.
  • TeleVantage phone systems can work with other phones like those from Polycom if your desire.
  • TeleVantage can provide IP telephony using IP gateways like the MultiTech MultiVOIP with no IP card required in the TeleVantage server.
  • TeleVantage phone systems using H323 allow you to access PC workstations with microphones and speakers as soft-phones.
  • TeleVantage phone system access can be incorporated into WEB designs with a "click to call" button connecting callers to your phone system from the WEB.

TeleVantage VOIP Phone Systems

  • Require no network infrastructure upgrade
  • Provide redundant communication
  • Can use low cost analog phones at the TeleVantage server location
  • Work with a wide variety of IP telephony equipment
  • Use standard H323
  • Provide access to your VOIP phone system from remote PCs or a WEB site

TeleVantage allows you to integrate analog, digital and IP phones (local or remote) as extensions on the same phone system providing your most cost efficient implementation of VOIP.

Other TeleVantage info:

  • TeleVantage can effectively provide VOIP via the public Internet or corporate Intranets using frame or DSL.
  • Voice calls require a minimum of about 17K of bandwidth.
  • Heavily utilized networks will implement QOS.
  • If possible having all connected VOIP users utilizing the same ISP is beneficial. This reduces the number of routers the call traverses which results in reduced latency and better call quality.
  • If you have a particular VOIP phone system scenario for a single office or multiple offices contact TeleVantage Online at 770-426-0051 or mail your request to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we can provide the VOIP phone system equipment required and pricing.

TeleVantage VOIP and Licensing

  • Using TeleVantage as a VOIP phone system requires VOIP trunk licenses for the server
  • Using TeleVantage as a VOIP phone system requires a VOIP card
  • Depending on the phones used using TeleVantage as a VOIP phone system may require IP phone accessibility to an FTP server
  • Using TeleVantage as a VOIP phone system you can still receive "screen pops" (that is an application like Outlook will "pop open" the caller's Outlook record automatically when the phone rings) with special wiring and station licenses
  • If MultiTech MultiVOIPs are used no VOIP trunk licenses are required AND no VOIP card is required
  • MultiTech MultiVOIPs DO NOT pass caller ID information
